Today I rode the farthest I have ever ridden, 114 miles. There was a nasty storm coming in from Oklahoma in the early afternoon that we were trying to beat. I was on my bike for approximately 10 hours today pedaling away from 6:30am to 4:30 pm. I got my first flat today as well, a small piece of metal went through my tire, tire liner and into my tube. I thought I might make it all the way to Alaska without a flat...
After today I feel like I will be able to physically make it through this trip. Although my body is going to hurt a lot from now until August 15 I can handle it. When I am on my bike it is about making to the next rest stop, it is all a mental game that I am learning to play. If I give into the pains I am feeling I wont make it.
I am enjoying riding my bike now. It is so different than training in Austin. When I am riding in Austin I know I have work to go home to, now all I have to do is make it to the next city. I am really enjoying this new mind frame, it makes riding more enjoyable than it was in Austin. I feel much less stressed than I did preparing for the trip. It is nice to finally be on the road.
Today I rode for Karla Ellis, a friends moms who successfully fought breast cancer.
