Today was the first day of the trip. We cycled 50 miles from Cedar Park to Lampasas, Tx. Afterward there was BBQ and a party for all the local riders that rode the first day of our trip with us. Michael and I finished around 1pm, it took us about 4 hours of riding time. It was nice to spend some time with my family before saying goodbye to everyone. Spending the day with everyone has offset the reality that I really am going to be saying goodbye to my family for the entire summer. Tonight was the last night all 44 of us are going to be together as a team. Tomorrow we will split our routes until we meet up in Whitehorse, Canada on day 60. I will be heading north through Oklahoma and Kansas and the Sierra route will be heading west towards California.
Each day before we ride we have rider dedications. Each team member tells who they will be riding for that day. Today I rode for Bill Edwards, our coach from training camp in Feb. He has beat cancer once and is currently fighting it again.
